It is simple, Karmor John Simbo. Shaki was a crook, but he was also a true nationalist. Look at his entire history, not just the years he made his mistakes.

Shaki's rule. He created that hell in the first place. I can't figure why there
hasn't been a clamour for the man's remains to be removed from the precincts of
Parliament. He does not deserve that honour.

Re: [Leonenet] PA SHAKIE CALL SALONE
Thanks a heap Karmor Claude for your inquiry, despite its sneaky motive. The following are the three things I pointed out to Pa Shaki. Now whether or not mine was the only prompting that led him to change his policies I cannot claim or, as we used to say in the good old days, "cham banga for am."
(1) Based on an economics essay a fellow student, Arthur, had written, I was very concerned about the Shaki Administration continuously borriwing from the World bank and IMF. I shared with him Arthur's findings and suggested that the Administration start paying down the debt. Well, as you may recall, the Administration did. The result was that Sierra Leone's economy grew and was even in a good position to withstand the global oil shocks of the period.
(2) Since my youth, I have always felt that an occasional monkey suit and tie is okay; but excessive wearing of such oyinbo/muzungu costumes, I believe, is a sign is serious cultural capitulation. Thus, I politely mentioned to Pa Shaki that he being an Afrikan nationalist can spur a growth in the national apparel industry by wearing more Afrikan outfits. I pointed out the examples of his best friend, Sekou Toure, and Pa Milton Margai who looked good in their Afrikan outfits. If you would notice, in the latter part of tenure at President, Pa Shaki became more comfortable in Afrikan outfits. Many of his ministers even followed suit.
(3) Pa Shaki was being extremely pressured to select Sorie Ibrahim Koroma to be his Prime Minister and subsequently his first Vice President to appease the Temne. My argument was that he needed someone with an amicable image, and that being called and cherishing the name Agba Satani does not portray an amicable image. He asked who fits such an image, and my response was Christian Alusine Kamara-Taylor. As it tuned out, Kamara-Taylor became the Prime Minister and later first Vice President. But to appease those who were pressuring him, Pa Shaki later appointed Koroma his second Vice President.
And Karmor John Simbo, about Taqi, Forna, etc., many students and I wrote letters to Pa Shaki arguing that the accused had a long history of being "straight shooters" who would confront opponents openly rather than engage in dubious behind-the-scene activities. I went to school with relatives of Taqi and Forna in S/L. Some of them ended up working at the Lungi Airport. Each time I visited Lungi, I hooked up with them. But when the confessions to the coup plot started coming out and David Lansana, who had orchestrated the first coup in Sierra Leone's history, was seriously implicated, our hearts sunk because we knew that their demise was certain.

I had an encounter with Pa Shaki, JCK's Uncle, in Switzerland, and I thought I was going to get it hard for speaking my mind to him. He was expecting me to do like the others that went into his hotel office to see him, share the typical "hardship stories" as Afrikan students struggling in Europe, and then ask for financial help. Instead, I went in there talking about what I admired about his earlier political record and some of his bad policies at the time. To my surprise, he thanked me for being honest and confessed that there were things about his administration of which he was not proud or happy.

Re: [Leonenet] PA SHAKIE CALL SALONE
Bro Abdul,
The reason why I asked you that question is because the Sheki I knew did not take kindly to outsiders (non-APC core members) telling him how to do his job
more or less students. I know for a fact that guru (Hindolo Trye) will back me on this. He was the most popular student during that era and even he failed when he tried to advise pops Sheks on matters regarding student activities. The old man called him a
“fit-yai boy” (disrespectful boy). That is why I was surprised when you said that he accepted and implemented the advise you gave him.
I’ll take your word that he accepted your recommendations on 1 and 2; however, 3 might be a little fuzzy because SI Koroma was his vice president (a position
that MS Fornah would have gotten had he not rebelled) and Kamara-Taylor was his prime minister. He made SI VP-1 and Kamara-Taylor VP-2 after the one-party referendum.
Just a quick heads up... After MS Fornah and Bash-Taqi were sidelined, real power within the APC was in the hands of SI Koroma. Whenever there was a cabinet
reshuffle, SI was heavily involved in choosing who got what position including the secretary-general position of the party – a position which ET Kamara had for years. It would have been political suicide for pa Sheki had he tried to sideline SI.

Re: [Leonenet] PA SHAKIE CALL SALONE
Indeed, Hindolo Trye, unlike his sister and my fromer fellow school mate, Hana Trye, lacks the art of diplomacy. And student riots under his leadership did not sit well with those in power at the time; thus, his leadership was viewed with suspicion.
What Sierra Leonean students in the Diaspora have are the clout of international media and ocasionally supportive leaders. In Italy, we were able to get the S/L Embassy to provide sleeping quarters and allowances for food and transportation for students who transit via Rome to their final destinations or go to Rome for short study tours and research, because we made the case to Pa Shaki when he visited Italy in a very respectful manner. In the US, we were able to get Pa Shaki to scrub the nuclear waste dumping deal, because we asked President Carter to intervene (I still have the letter from President Carter as a suvenir) and informed the media about the deal. The media, in trun, publicized the story.

| AKB,
If Stevens was paying his debt as you claim (which would make us credit worthy/low credit risk), why was Momoh not able to easily borrow against previous established lines of credit that Stevens paid off? Why were loans from financial institutions in the Stevens and Momoh era given with stricter or harsher conditions/terms? than the Margai era? Why was foreign exchange allocation to the public and businesses severely rationed? Explain foreign donors resorting to aid/loan without direct transfer of funds to Sierra Leone as was the case with Chinese government and building of the Stadium. Justify folks forming lines for every imported food/non food item especially gasoline and rice under Stevens/Momoh.

The answer to your question, Mr. Blind Supporter of BeLewa-Yodalaria Pontius Pillate Bumpeh and Chief Norman Killer, can be found in the most authoritative work on the subject by John Weeks titled Development Strategy and the Economy of Sierra Leone (New York: St. Martin's Press, 1992). And I am not going to spoon feed you as folk do with BeLewa-Yodalaria.

| Aminista, exaggerator is another name you are adding to your repertoire...anyway, i could not help but notice that yours (okay and my good friend from No. Cal) is/are the only APC voice(s) left around here... i am hoping that you guys (the professionals in with serious academic output in govt), including Uncle Pete (Dumbuya) will start a serious discussion on how to help the politicians in Salone develop permanent governing strategies besides "wearing African clothes".... "-)...
Look what that got Tanzania and Zambia.... anyway, this forum, independent of Obai, should start a serious discussion of revenue sources for the govt: should they create structured taxes for everyone including farmers?
We have seen you and your people lose too many elections: Gore, Kerry.... we want you to put your tremendous capital to use to guide Salon...the VC job is taken for the next 20 yrs, so do not be bitter about that: you can be a consultant, pro bono,....so get to work and don't be bitter that you were not given that VC job: AG is doing a great job and besides he is our own, so we should not let him fail....ed

Bro Abdul,
The reason why I asked you that question is because the Sheki I knew did not take kindly to outsiders (non-APC core members) telling him how to do his job more or less students. I know for a fact that guru (Hindolo Trye) will back me on this. He was the most popular student during that era and even he failed when he tried to advise pops Sheks on matters regarding student activities. The old man called him a ³fit-yai boy² (disrespectful boy). That is why I was surprised when you said that he accepted and implemented the advise you gave him.
I¹ll take your word that he accepted your recommendations on 1 and 2; however, 3 might be a little fuzzy because SI Koroma was his vice president (a position that MS Fornah would have gotten had he not rebelled) and Kamara-Taylor was his prime minister. He made SI VP-1 and Kamara-Taylor VP-2 after the one-party referendum.
Just a quick heads up... After MS Fornah and Bash-Taqi were sidelined, real power within the APC was in the hands of SI Koroma. Whenever there was a cabinet reshuffle, SI was heavily involved in choosing who got what position including the secretary-general position of the party a position which ET Kamara had for years. It would have been political suicide for pa Sheki had he tried to sideline SI.

Karmor Mbayo, Karmor Kallon, many other serious academics and I did exactly that for Kabbahlaria. What happened to all that hard work? That is a question you should ask Kabbahlaria and BeLewa-Yodalaria the next time you see them. About the VC job? Never interested! Make it a Chancellorship a la American style? Aha!
It is okay to admit that BeLewa-Yodalaria, your fellow Bumpeh Killer, wants you for the VC position. The current would not mind one bit. Really!!!

Dear Sam and John:
It seems both of you are just now getting to understand what Karmoh AKB really believes in and stands for. I first met him in cyberspace during the RUF/AFRC period. Karmoh seemed to think that the Kabba government should just have sat down repeatedly with Johnny-Paul and Sankoh and showed them why their rebellion was not a good idea and everything would be fine. This brought to my mind US Senator William Borah's immortal reaction in September 1939 upon hearing that Hitler had invaded Poland to start World War II: "Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided."
Karmoh AKB's naivette in the service of endless acommodation recalls also the flacid foreign policy of the Momoh administration at the beginning of the Sierra Leone invasion.

John,
Indeed! AKB is nuts! He just loves to cuddle nasty leaders in Africa......they seem to represent a form of "nationalism" to him. What's wrong with people striving to remove a thieving despot from power? The nation's top job is a JOB with performance and ethical requirements; it's not an entitlement and the people should not be obligated to tip-toe around a leader's obvious inability to to do the job.
Contrast his loving tender understanding of Sheki to his virulent hatred of Kabba and Berewa!

Oh, ok now I see. He was an angel, problem was the people around him who did not talk directly to him! Look what talking did for Taqi and others. I suppose you would now say they did not talk directly to the man, they tried "to remove him from power". AKB you are amazing!

Bra Yaya:
The APC convention was followed by even more complaints, fist fights, mammy-cusses and all. The difference is that nobody paid attention because you guys have a long history of conducting crooked elections. Please keep your own house in order first.

Brother Sam Zoker, Why don't act on your recommendation of your last paragraph and urge vote against Beeewa because he participated in a fraudulent Convention process that selected Berewa as SLPP Presidential Candidate. Red Flag! Yaya Fanusie-APC

I hear you. He was not one of the characters. He auditioned for the role but was rejected because he was suffering from slpp bikfukism. Yaya
