UTAIR SIERRA LEONE LTD., a UTAIR subsidiary, has begun commercial
flights in Sierra Leone.
The subsidiary carrier is based in Freetown. UTAIR SL has successfully
passed an audit to ICAO standards. In Sierre Leone, UTAIR operates four Mi-8 helicopters, with two being used under UN aegis and another two under commercial contracts with INTER CITY AIRLINES LTD. The helicopters will be employed in both passenger and cargo shipments. UTAIR SOUTH AFRICA will maintain the helicopter fleet.
At present, UTAIR operates 60 helicopters under export contracts in
various parts of the globe, from North America to South Africa. In 2006, ITAIR started flying helicopters in Canada and Lebanon. The airline expects 25% year-on-year growth in its export earnings from the use of its helicopter fleet in 2006 and this year.
